Butlersbridge Trout Anglers Co- operative Society


Is set in quiet rural surroundings, one mile from Butlersbridge on the N3 and just 5 miles north of Cavan Town.
It is one of the best known put and take trout fisheries in the Country and when you visit you'll understand why. The fishery was run by the Inland Fishery Trust since the early 1960's and when they abandoned the lake in 1992 a group, of local anglers formed a co-operative and took over the lake. It is now a hugely successful fishery run by Anglers for Anglers.
The lake is stocked exclusively with Rainbow Trout obtained from the Central Fisheries Board Hatchery in Roscrea, Co. Tipperary. The fish are in excellent condition and are renowned for their fighting qualities. Approximately 5000 Rainbows are stocked annually average weight 11/4Ib -2lb plus. 2000 summerlings and 5000 fingerlings are also stocked annually. Fish over winter well in the lake and rainbows of up to 151b have been caught on fly
It is: a spring fed Lake of approximately lOO acres, pollution free and surrounded by deciduous trees which provide great shelter and an abundance of terrestrial flies.
Fly fishing by rod and line from boats supplied by the club only permitted, Shore fishing is prohibited. There are eight club boats on the lake 4 are 19 foot and 4 are 14 foot all manufactured locally by Sheelin Boats Ltd, Mountnugent.

Coming from the south take the N3 all the way to Cavan town and simply turn off after pauwels toward Belturbet and follow the by pass to Butlersbridge
From the north come out of Belturbet and follow the bypass to Butlersbridge
